WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration issued a draft of new guidelines for fresh produce on Monday. The draft is the first time that the FDA has decided to ask growers of fresh fruit and vegetables to impose safety checks on their produce in much the same manner as the meat industry does. However compliance with these guidelines is purely voluntary.
